Sedona Interludes
Head up from Phoenix to Flagstaff and you’ll run into the famous arts and spa town of Sedona. Surrounded by red rock buttes and stunning vistas, no trip through Arizona is complete without a stop.
Blake’s Lotaburger: An Underdog Story
Ask anyone what the best regional burger chain is and you’ll likely hear about In-N-Out, Whataburger, Culvers, and the occasional Jack in the Box. But as our friends from New Mexico can tell you, there is another contender here that punches well above its weight.
Day 21: Carlsbad Caverns + White Sands National Parks
If you find yourself in Southern New Mexico with a free day to kill, I can’t recommend the one-two punch of Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Park highly enough.
Day 20: Guadalupe Mountains National Park
Guadalupe Mountains is one of the best National Parks you’ve probably never heard of. Nestled in a remote region near the Texas/New Mexico border, the park boasts the highest peak in Texas along with the worlds largest Permian fossil reef.
Welcome to Marfa
You wouldn’t expect to find an eclectic hub of art and culture in the middle of West Texas.
And yet, Marfa.
Day 16-18: Big Bend
National Park #4
Big Bend is one one of those places you need to experience to believe. Pictures simply can’t capture the grand scale of the park or the unique landscapes, canyons, trails, and vistas it contains.
About Whataburger…
We’ve finally entered the great state of Texas. Of course, one of our first priorities here after visiting some of our amazing friends in Houston and Austin was to grab a staple of the Texas/Southwest culinary experience. I speak, of course, of Whataburger.
Day 10 - 14: Up around the gulf coast
After leaving the keys we made or way (slowly) up around the gulf coast stopping to see family, beaches, state parks, and wildlife areas. Some great spots along this route that we highly recommend.
Key Lime Pie Appreciation Post
If you love Key Lime Pies, South Florida and the Keys are the place for you. Everyone has opinions about who has the best - and we certainly didn’t have time to test them all (a real shame).
But we did try out three of the best. And a Haiku.
Day 9: To The Keys!
You really can’t find a better place to go in February than the Florida Keys. We decided to leave the van behind for a day and rented a car to drive down HWY 1. Great food, sun, beautiful parks, boats, and even more great food.
Day 7: Biscayne National Park
National Park #3
When people talk about National Parks in Florida, Biscayne is often overlooked compared to the flashier Everglades or Dry Tortugas. It shouldn’t be. There’s an incredible amount of history and wildlife here, and any place where you need a boat to get to will rank highly on our list.
Day 4-6: The Everglades
National Park #2
The Everglades are an experience. Birds, gators, fish, turtles, swamps, insects, it has them all.
Day 2: Congaree National Park
National Park #1
We got to Congaree National Park on day 2 of our adventure. We had just left DC where it was cold and rainy, and when we got to South Carolina it was more of the same.
About the Van
In order to go on a campervan trip, first you need a campervan. And finding the right one is a journey - but there’s a lot of help out there if you know where to look.
Day 1: And We’re Off…
A few months ago we came up with a crazy idea: travel around the country in a campervan visiting National Parks, eating fun local foods, and seeing all kinds of fun things along the way. Months (and a lot of planning) later, we’re headed out on an 8-week adventure that will take us to 30 National Parks and span 8,000 miles.
