Key Lime Pie Appreciation Post

Key Lime Pie is pure -
Unadulterated joy.
Get in my belly.

-A Haiku by Sondra

If you love key lime pies, South Florida and the Keys are the place for you. Everyone has opinions about who has the best - and we certainly didn’t have time to test them all (a real shame).

But we did try out three of the best.

#3: Mrs. Macs - Key Largo

Mrs. Macs is a staple of key lime pies. Located on Key Largo, we may have hit this one up a bit early in the morning. The Pie was still somewhat frozen, but nonetheless you really can’t beat Key Lime Pie for breakfast. The pie was delicious, and the crust was the star (Sondra disagrees on the crust, this was not her favorite). Not the best we had, but great all the same.

Thanks to our friend Jason for the rec - great way to start our day in the keys.

#2: Conch House - Key Largo

We didn’t go to the Conch House for their pies, but the food was so good we decided to roll the dice. We didn’t regret our decision (Thanks to Colin for the rec). This slice was soft and tart, and perfectly fresh. The crust wasn’t anything spectacular, but the green lime sauce (while controversial in the key lime community) was a great element. Probably the second best pie we had!

#1: Publix - Everywhere (In the South)

The winner, and still undisputed (probably) champion is the world famous Publix key lime pie. You might think we’re crazy for choosing a mass produced pie from a grocery chain, but you’d be wrong. We are by no means experts, but these things are just incredible. Perfect combination of texture, tartness, fluff, and crust. We have 100% killed an entire one of these in a day. More than once.

You should try all the pies and let us know which ones we missed so we can go back and try them. But for now (and for always?), Publix is king.
