Frequently Asked Questions
We are so excited to be kicking off our #vanlife adventure. We had a ton of questions as we were setting this up, and in turn we’ve been getting a ton of questions now that we’ve started this whole thing. Here are the answers to the most popular of those:
What is this?
A fun little blog cataloguing our #Vanlife trip through 30 National Parks and many other stops along the way. Food will also be prominently featured.
Who are you?
Sondra (left) and Kory (right) are two Wisconsin ex-pats who work in politics and happened to be married to one another.
“Yes We Van”?
It’s hard to come up with creative van puns that haven’t already been used. This seemed like a good one for two politicos traveling around in a van. Embrace the corny pun.
For those of you who somehow missed the 2008 election – this is a riff off the “Yes We Can” campaign slogan from Barack Obama.
Did you buy a van?
Maybe someday if this goes well.
We rented through Outdoorsy.com from an awesome woman in Virginia. We also thought about building our own van and then realized we didn’t have the patience (or technical competence) to do that.
What does it look like inside?
Here are some great photos of our home for the next two months.
Campervanning through the country…Where did that come from?
We were looking for a socially distant and fun way to travel. Sondra has always wanted to visit every National Park. Kory’s idea of what camping should look like is Haverfordian (there’s a lot of Parks and Rec references in here). This seemed like a good way to accomplish all.
Are you coming through Wisconsin (or any Midwestern State)
No.
Where are you going?
These are all the places we plan to hit. The joy of driving around in a camper van though is that it is incredibly easy to call an audible. Don’t love the park you’re visiting? You can hit up the next one. Love a park so much you can’t leave just yet? You can skip one you weren’t excited about!
Will you come visit us?
Maybe. We’re still in the middle of a national pandemic and we’re trying to be very smart about social distancing and safety. Message us if you’re on our route and if it works out we might come say hi (in a socially responsible way…like driving the van past your house and 3 AM and honking loudly).
OMG, you’re in [Inert State/City] you have to try [Insert Restaurant/Regional Food]!!
We definitely want recs! Facebook/Text/Email/DM us. If they live up to the hype we’ll give you a shoutout. If they don’t we will openly mock you on the internet.
Don’t @ me with your Whataburger and In-N-Out nonsense. Yes of course we will stop there because there is no shame in eating the 2nd or 3rd best burger chain burgers in America.
What is the best local burger chain?
Culvers and it’s not even close.
What’s next?
Our next blog will be called “Parks and Brek” in which we travel around National Parks eating delicious local breakfast food. We may still do this and are accepting sponsors at this time.
