About the Van
In order to go on a campervan trip, first you need a campervan. And finding the right one is a journey - but there’s a lot of help out there if you know where to look.
After briefly exploring the idea of buying one (they cost as much as a small house) or building one (but would it explode?), we decided renting was the safest option.
We used Outdoorsy.com - the Airbnb for camping - and found an awesome van owned by a family in Virginia.
Some things we learned in our search for the perfect van:
Campervans are in huge demand right now. It turns out #Vanlife is sweeping the country and the average wait time to buy is 9 months.
Outdoorsy has an incredible selection of vans and RVs - and they take all the hassle (insurance, etc.) out of finding one.
Do yourself a favor and take some time to learn the ins and outs of RV life. Knowing what the heck gray water and shore power are will be very helpful.
There’s a huge community of folks out there who are doing the same things we are, so the internet is your friend. Sites like ioverlander.com have nearly everything you need to plan a great RV or Campervan getaway.
